Chilling out at a luxury resort is a top thing to do in Los Cabos.

1- TAKE A CAMEL RIDE ALONG THE BEACH

While a camel ride may not be at the top of your mind when you think of Mexico, in Los Cabos, it’s one of the more unique things to do on your vacation.

This activity is great for the whole family, and no experience is necessary, as these camels are very friendly and docile.

All you have to do is sit astride your noble steed and take in the glorious panorama of sand and sea.

These tours are often run from eco-farms found throughout the Los Cabos region and pack in extras, including a light lunch and snacks, tequila tasting and transport to and from your accommodation to make for a memorable afternoon. Here are some options:

2- GO WHALE SPOTTING ABOARD A CATAMARAN

Going whale watching is one of the things to do when in Los Cabos.

Los Cabos receives a special visitor every winter: the giant humpback whale.

These creatures migrate from their home in the Arctic to the warmer waters of the Baja Peninsula for mating season.

It is not uncommon to spot humpback whales from the shore, but one of the best things to do in Los Cabos in the winter months is to join a whale-watching tour aboard a catamaran.

This will let you get up close to appreciate the majesty of these creatures.

Some catamaran tours even come equipped with hydrophones aboard so you can see the whales and hear them singing underwater.

If you’re lucky, you might even see the dolphins, manta rays and turtles that inhabit these waters.

3- FIND HIDDEN BEACHES

fun things to do in los cabos
Feeling the sand between your toes is one of the most popular things to do in Los Cabos.

You’re sure to find the perfect beach in Los Cabos with many worthy contenders.

The most well-known beach is Playa Medano, located conveniently in downtown Cabo San Lucas beside many beach-front hotels and restaurants.

It’s a safe beach to swim in and offers many water activity options too.

The best beaches in Los Cabos require a little extra effort because they are only accessible by boat.

Trust me, they’re worth it and getting to these beaches is much easier than it may sound.

Plenty of water taxis are available from Medano Beach and Cabo Marina to transport you to the hidden beaches of Lover’s Beach or Playa del Amor and Divorce Beach or ‘Playa del Divorcio’.

We found the names ironic too.

Playa del Amor is my personal favourite.

Cabo Marina is at Lote A-18 De la Darsena, Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur, Mexico 23450. Adventurous travellers may want to try this kayaking and snorkelling tour to Lover’s Beach.

4- HIKE UP THE PEDREGAL FOR A VIEW

Enjoying ocean views is another top thing to do in Los Cabos.

Rising up behind and overlooking the town of Cabo San Lucas is the rocky hilltop called the Pedregal.

Atop this promontory, you can find famous celebrity homes and some of the most extravagant luxury villas in Los Cabos.

Hike to the top of the Pedregal, which is where the white round observatory is and thank us later.

The views here will not disappoint.

5- VISIT THE EDGE OF THE WORLD AT LAND’S END

Taking a cruise to Land’s End is one of the best things to do in Los Cabos.

You can’t visit Los Cabos without seeing its distinctive landmark: the natural sea arch and rock formation called Land’s End or ‘El Arco’.

This impressive rock formation is on the very tip of the Baja California peninsula and marks the spot where the Pacific Ocean meets the sea of Cortez.

The coastline is stunning, dotted with little coves, jagged rocks and sea lions.

This landmark is only accessible by sea, and there are two ways to reach it: by water taxi from Cabo Marina, which will drop you off at the nearby beaches (Lover’s Beach or Divorce Beach), or on some of the boat tours, which will get you closer.

6- SWIM WITH WHALE SHARKS – THE WORLD’S LARGEST FISH

Swimming beside whale sharks, the world’s largest fish, is something you need to have on your bucket list.

Don’t worry, whale sharks are not as intimidating as they may sound.

They may be big but they don’t bite. They’re on a strict seafood diet of plankton and krill.

Swimming with these whale sharks in Los Cabos is possible between October and April.

Tours to do this start out from the sleepy town of La Paz, so if you’d like to cut down on travel times, spending a night in the sleepy La Paz might be worth your while.

La Paz is about a 2.5-hour drive from the town of Cabo San Lucas.

7- PARTY UNTIL SUNRISE AT EL SQUID ROE

Party animals will get their fix in Cabo San Lucas, known for its vibrant nightlife and sunset party cruises (many with open bars).

One of the wildest party venues in Los Cabos is El Squid Roe, which is spread out over three storeys and is a venue that goes all out to create a lively party atmosphere.

The party starts after 11 pm. Will you make the sunrise?

If this is not your scene, check out El Squid Roe in the daytime for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

8- GET ARTSY ON AN ART WALK

In the high season, from November to June, a weekly art walk takes place every Thursday evening in San Jose del Cabo.

On this night, many of the town’s art galleries stay open late for exhibitions, lectures or wine tastings, and the streets in this part of town are car-free.

It’s a great cultural activity that has gained popularity recently.

It’s an excellent way to meet people; the cherry on the cake is the walk is free.

9- SHOW OFF YOUR INNER SUPERHERO WITH FLYBOARDING

Flyboarding is all the craze in Los Cabos and it’s not hard to see why.

For the uninitiated, flyboarding involves wearing jet boots strapped to a hydro board.

Water pressure is then pushed through tubes into your boots to lift you above the waves into the air.

Due to its popularity, many beaches in Los Cabos offer flyboarding as a water activity.

All you need for this activity is some courage and decent balance. Once you get the hang of it, you’ll want more.

10- VISIT THE MAGIC TOWN OF TODOS SANTOS

The ‘magic’ town of Todos Santos is a perfect day trip as it’s only a one-hour drive from Cabo San Lucas.

Todos Santos was awarded the prestigious title of ‘Pueblo Magico’ (Magic Town), a title bestowed to Mexican towns of particular historical and cultural interest around Mexico.

Palm-lined Todos Santos is known for its colourful streets, stunning colonial architecture and peaceful beaches.

Its location between the rugged Sierra Laguna mountains and the azure Pacific Ocean make Todos Santos a particularly picture-worthy place. A great way to explore is on an off-road jeep expedition.

Since the 80s, Todos Santos has attracted many artists who have come and set up their studios permanently, providing visitors with quaint artisan shops and boutiques to peruse during their visit.

Todos Santos is 47 miles (76 km) from Cabo San Lucas.

11- VISIT ‘THE AQUARIUM OF THE WORLD’

The National Marine Park of Cabo Pulmo is the only hard coral reef in this part of the world and represents an impressive achievement in ocean conservation efforts.

It’s no wonder that Cabo Pulmo has been nicknamed the ‘Aquarium of the World’!

Another eco-friendly way to explore Cabo Pulmo is by kayak.

Get a 360-degree bird’s eye view of Land’s End and the Cabo shoreline with another adrenaline-kick activity: parasailing.

Buckle up and prepare to be launched off the back of a boat up to 600 feet (183 m) into the air to get this unique perspective.

15- GO ON A TREASURE HUNT ABOARD A PIRATE SHIP

This tour is fantastic for the kids who will feel like they’ve joined Jack Sparrow’s crew aboard the Black Pearl as they use a treasure map to hunt for missing treasure.

Psst! It’s not just the kids who will enjoy this one.

Aboard a replica pirate ship, you’ll cruise the coast past stunning Land’s End, looking for clues.

The treasure hunt comes to a fun climax with a snorkelling session to find the treasure chest and, after all that hard work, a well-earned lunch aboard the ship.

The uninhabited island of Espiritu Santo is a UNESCO biosphere reserve packed with marine life and wildlife.
